Literacy Lane offers countless "Branching Out" Expansion Activities to target literacy, language, math, and executive function skills. Suggestions are available as a free download with your order of the Adventure Pack (valued at $399.00). Within the Expansion Activities, examples (ranging from basic to challenging) are provided for each target area. The Expansion Activities set Literacy Lane apart from other sensory paths by offering movement with a purpose.  Academic activities are provided to target foundational skills at a deeper level by building and strengthening neural connections. Further, the Activities build capacity in school staff or adults who are actively engaged with children. Example Alphabet Caterpillar

At the basic level, the Caterpillar Lane targets Alphabet Knowledge and Phonemic Awareness. The child can:

 walk along the path for a movement break;

  •  identify the named sound picture/letter (e.g., find the sound picture for “s”)
  •  name sound for the sound picture/letter (i.e., sound/symbol association)
  • name the letter (i.e., letter identification)


At the branching out expansions level, the Caterpillar Lane targets Literacy, Language, Math, and Movement. In one of our provided activities the child can:

  • land on sound picture (letter) "t" (activity)
  • name something that starts with the "t" sound (e.g. "top") (literacy component)
  • show me the "top" of your head (language component)
  • how many sounds are in the word "top"? (math component)
  • you're on the "t" for "top", hop to the next sound in the word "top" (i.e., "o") (movement component)
  • can you shape your hand/body to look like an "o"? (movement component)
